LOCATION
Widely considered the most picturesque seaside village in
Connecticut, historic Stonington Borough is full of
stately 18th and 19th century homes, interesting shops,
and several restaurants. In the warmer months, an
acclaimed farmers’ market offers both locals and
visitors a popular place to gather. The village is also
home to a scenic deepwater harbor that shelters
Connecticut’s last remaining commercial fishing fleet
and, because of its location outside Long Island Sound,
has long been a major yachting center. The region offers
many recreational opportunities, including ocean
beaches, sailing, tennis, numerous golf courses,
horseback riding, and excellent fresh and saltwater
fishing. Conveniently located between New York City and
Boston, the area is well served by multiple airports,
Amtrak and Interstate 95.
PROPERTY
The property is large and private by village standards.
It is centrally located within easy walking distance to
everything the village has to offer. The well landscaped
grounds are completely fenced with gardens and mature
plantings surrounding all sides of the house. There is
off street parking for two automobiles.
RESIDENCE
Built in 1823, the house is an historic, federal home
which is the prevalent form of architecture in the
village. The main entrance opens to a front hall with a
stairway to the second floor, a doorway to a comfortable
library with fireplace, and a doorway to a double parlor
with beautiful woodwork, fireplace and French doors to
the garden. A dining room with built in cabinetry,
powder room and entrance to the elevator are in the rear
of the house. The charming galley kitchen is accessed
through the dining room and has a fireplace, small
pantry, Wolf commercial range, and door to the side
garden.
The second floor contains the master bedroom with en
suite full bath and fireplace, a guest room with
fireplace and bath, the laundry and the elevator
entrance. The third floor has a large bedroom, ample
storage under the eaves and an office or fourth bedroom
overlooking village scenery.
The house systems have all been updated with modern
heating equipment, central air conditioning, insulation
and new windows. The house was newly painted this spring
and is in excellent condition.
