LOCATION
Widely considered the most picturesque seaside village in
Connecticut, historic Stonington Borough is a lovingly
cared for place of narrow tree-lined streets with stately
18th and 19th century residences, interesting shops and
cozy restaurants. It has an old-fashioned ambiance with
neighbors who still gather for farmer's markets, parades,
and entertainment on the square; however the main focus of
life revolves around the sea. With its location on a
narrow peninsula surrounded by Fisher's Island Sound and
Little Narragansett Bay, Stonington is home to a scenic
deepwater harbor which shelters Connecticut's last
remaining commercial fishing fleet. Also, because of its
many amenities and its location at the end of Long Island
Sound, Stonington has long been recognized as a major
yachting center.
Conveniently located halfway between Boston and New York,
the area's many popular visitor attractions include the
Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium and various summer
theatres. Ocean beaches, tennis, numerous golf courses,
horseback riding and excellent salt and freshwater fishing
are just some of the area's many recreational
opportunities.
PROPERTY
Sitting atop a gentle rise on over one acre, this stately
1786 Colonial offers complete privacy in the heart of the
Village. Formal terraced gardens are lined with stone
walls, footpaths and hedges. Mature trees provide privacy
and shade. There is ample room for a swimming pool or a
tennis court, and since the property includes two
additional building lots, it could easily be transformed
into a wonderful family compound.
RESIDENCE
The house is comprised of more than 4730 square feet of
living space including a separate apartment or guest
suite. The many windows feature lovely garden views and
some distant water views. The rooms are well proportioned
and bright with original fireplaces and details.
First Floor: An oversized family room with a fireplace,
large bay window and French doors leads to a covered porch
overlooking the gardens. In addition, a formal parlor with
fireplace and many original details adds to the living
space. The large dining room is in the center of the house
and also has a fireplace. The dining room adjoins a
handsome kitchen which has been recently renovated. Second
Floor: This level offers three bedrooms and two baths,
including one bedroom with French doors leading to a large
deck that has partial water views. The third floor has two
bedrooms. Attached to the main house, but also having a
separate entrance, is a large apartment/guest suite with
kitchen, one bath, living room and three bedrooms.
